Highlights of Madrid and The Royal Palace Tour:

Plaza de EspanaThe ‘Highlights of Madrid’ coach tour will give you an opportunity to see the iconic roads, monuments and buildings of the beautiful city of Madrid and learn something of its remarkable history from a local experienced guide. Amongst the sites you will see are the Bernabeu Stadium of Real Madrid; Paseo de la Castellana, which is the largest and widest avenue in Madrid; Plaza de Colon, built to commemorate Christopher Columbus; Cibeles Square and Palace with its striking marble fountains; Gran Via also known as “Spanish Broadway”; Plaza de España where you will see the monument to the Spanish novelist and poet Miguel de Cerrantes Saavedra and Plaza de Oriente featuring an impressive statue of Philip IV of Spain and bronze statues of Don Quixote and Sandro Panza amongst others. The coach will then drop you at The Royal Palace where your entrance ticket will allow you to explore this magnificent building.

Madrid Royal PalaceMadrid's Royal Palace was built in the 18th century by order of Philip V on the site of the old Alcázar fortress, a former Moorish castle. Sachetti began the works in 1738, and the building was completed in 1764. Sabatini designed the southeast wing and the great staircase, also known as the staircase of honour. The Palace has a square floor plan with a large central courtyard. The Puerta del Príncipe gateway on the east side gives access to the central courtyard. The Sabatini and Campo del Moro Gardens are among the Palace's considerable attractions, as well as its several different façades. There is some debate as to its artistic style; it is thought by some experts to belong more to the Baroque, and by others to the Neo-classical style. Of particular note among its numerous rooms are the Royal Guards' Room, the Columns Room, the Hall of Mirrors and King Charles III's room. It also contains paintings by Velázquez, Goya, Rubens, El Greco and Caravaggio.
